The Final Goodbye

It's been a long time,
silences have stopped speaking,
the cruelty of spoken words
has the eyes of thought leaking.

I look into the eyes,
waiting for some sound of hope
waiting for the lips to smile
to laugh, to untie this rope.

But we both know that neither
would make the first move,
we both know that it'll be
as it was before, equals love.

I reach up, our fingertips meet,
cold, clammy, like fresh sleet.
It's not skin that I feel, no,
it feels like glass, cold as steel

I look up, staring into the mirror,
I see myself where you'd been,
I see the fingers meeting, yet apart,
you were just an illusion I'd seen.

The spell is broken, you're gone forever
no how's, no where, no why,
The curse of our distance smiles at me,
with my own lips..

It's the final Goodbye.
